Experience

Digital Audio Workstations 

Principles and importance of MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) and DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) skills as applied to musical compositions. Skills include MIDI mapping and programming, editing, synthesis, and automation.

 

Musical Listening & Identification

Special interest in overview of essential song structure and digital audio workstation techniques. Key skills include aurally identifying song structures—including verse, chorus, and bridge.

Music Composition Programming

Key skills include processing grooves, hooks, and production effects; demonstrating fundamental aspects of composition and programming; and notating natural minor scales in multiple keys and rhythms.

Sequencing Technologies

Areas of emphasis include MIDI; software-based sequencing using ADSR parameter; synthesis techniques; advanced musical and rhythmic programming using Drum Machine Designer within Logic Pro; and automation of plug-in, software synth, and pitch parameters to enhance a MIDI-based production.

Skills include live recording and production techniques used in the modern digital studio environment to include microphone application and placement techniques needed to obtain professional-sounding results from the laptop-based project studio to the modern commercial studio environment.

Mixing Concepts and Techniques

Special emphasis on applying time-alignment to vocal and live instrument performances and demonstrate basic knowledge of pitch correction; designing templates in the ProTools platform that reflect key mixing and mastering concepts; demonstrating quality use of levels, pans, equalization, compression, and effects; and mastering versions of final mixes prepared for specific distribution methods.

Music Production for Media

Key skills are creation and production of music for film, television, advertising, and other media while using industry workflow, conventions of spotting and scoring for picture, and music production techniques used in marketing and advertisement for traditional and online environments.

Music Business Management

Special emphasis on music industry structure and business practices such as  industry money flow, record label structure, record and production contracts, management configuration, and support companies that assist in the development and distribution of music.
